Birkenstock Has Sizing Options Available to Accommodate All Sizes of Feet

The Birkenstock family has been in the shoe making business since the late 1700′s.  Their roots can be traced back to a small German village where Johann Adam Birkenstock is found in church archives as “subject and shoemaker”.  Over the years the Birkenstocks revolutionized the world of footwear and the name has become synonymous with comfort and quality.

No matter how comfortable a shoe is made, it will not feel good on your foot if it is the wrong size.  To ensure this, there are Birkenstock sizing options available to fit feet of any size.  Most people notice that one of their feet is slightly larger than the other, but in some cases their feet are actually different sizes.  For proper sizing the bigger foot should be fitted first, then indicate which one needs to be smaller.  The footbed of that shoe will be changed to accommodate the difference in size.  Changes of this type can only be made to shoes with cork footbeds and without polyurethane soles.  There is an additional $30.00 charge for this service, but it is well worth the cost for shoes that fit properly and are comfortable.

Another option is to order two pairs of different sizes and keep one of the correct size from each pair.  Birkenstock offers a 40% discount on the second pair and donates the shoes the customers doesn’t need to a worthy cause.  This is the best choice for customers who want closed-toe or waterproof shoes.

Birkenstock sizing offers an option for customers who need only one shoe.  They buy a pair of shoes at the regular price and receive a 40% discount on their purchase.  As with the second option, the unneeded shoe will be donated to charity.

In addition to these options, extended sizes are also available for people who have smaller or larger feet.  Two styles, the Salina and the Molano, come in sizes smaller than the Birkenstock size 35.  Also, people who need extremely small sizes can check out the selection of Birkenstock kids styles.  For customers who need sizes larger than the Birkenstock 46 the Arizona and the Boston are available in sizes 47-50, while the Milano, the Professional Clog, and the Super Birki Clog come in sizes 47-48.

There are styles of Birkenstock shoes that fit smaller than they are sized.  These special cases are known as Alternate sized styles and are indicated as such in the Birkenstock catalog and on the website.  To choose the correct size, refer to the product description.

Purchasing a pair of Birkenstock shoes is similar to making a long-term investment, and to get the most from your investment you need the size that is most suitable to provide comfort for your feet.  The Birkenstock sizing options make it possible to fit any foot no matter how large or small.

  1. Dear Sir/Madam,

I recently bought Gizeh for Men, Size 42/US9, Natural leather Havana color.
However, I’m having a problem determining my exact size.
As usually, with European dress shoes I wear size 8, and with sport shoes I wear size 8.5
Reading online about the sizing of Birkenstock I found out that, I need to have 1/4 inch between my feet and the sandals, however I have 1/2 inch from the front and the back.
Does that mean I need to get the smaller size 41/8? or would that be too small, considering I wear 8.5 sometimes?
at the Store I have been told that Birkenstock should be a bit longer and if your size is 8.5 you should get 9?

I would really appreciate the help regarding this matter.

  2. We would suggest the size 41 in your situation. If this is your first time trying Birkenstock footwear, it’s important that you get the correct fit. The footbed will mold to your foot over time, and if you have a sandal that’s even a little too big, you will not be happy with it in the long term.

    Good luck!

    Abigail
