We started a shoe store back in the late-90′s when the few people that knew about Dansko shoes thought of them as the clunky Danish clogs that you could only get in Black and Brown leather. Back in the day, most of the people that came into the store to buy Danskos were teachers and nurses. What a difference 15 years makes! Now, you can get Dansko shoes in just about any color, as well as a multitude of patterns.
But, from a retailer’s perspective, color isn’t the biggest difference in the evolution of Dansko. It’s the many, many different styles that they have introduced over the years. From the original closed-back clogs, to the Sonja open back, to the nursing shoes, then boots, sandals, Paddock boots, “Sport clogs”, hiking shoes, dress shoes, heels, and on and on and on.
We thought it might be a cool idea to use the power of the social web to chronicle the history of Dansko footwear. This will obviously be a work-in-progress for a while, and we’re breaking it down by the year each style was introduced. Hopefully we can leverage Facebook to make this easier, but we’re still working on that. No doubt there are a few styles that even the biggest Dansko fans may not recognize:

Here Dansko introduces Sport Clogs and Hiking shoes into their expanding collection. The hiking shoes did not last long – in fact, we doubt there are many in existence as Dansko quickly took them off the market. The Paddock line (with a Solvei-type bottom) was also introduced in late 2001/early 2002. Crocodile prints also started here with the “K” styles…
